Growth Management Solution (GMS)
The GMS is a carefully developed integrated programme, designed specifically to develop the skills and productivity of supervisors and first and second line managers in organisations where management teams have to raise their game to keep up with growth and/or change. The programme incorporates a business simulation where delegates undertake the roles of a management team or board of directors. The programme is customised to incorporate current problems or circumstances and can be designed around current work schedules to minimise business disruption.
The programme operates at four levels:
Level 1 Foundation
For those with little or no supervisory experience the programme begins with a series of introductory workshops designed to provide delegates with the foundation skills necessary for effective participation in the business simulation.
Level 2 Business Simulation
Whilst participant teams are working through the core case study, they will attend a series of selected one day management development workshops, which will deal with the skills and competencies that they must put into practice. The workshops form the basis for continued self learning necessary to complete the business simulation exercise. Close cooperation with other “team” members also highlights the benefits of effective team working.
To successfully complete the study, participants will be required to develop and practice a range of agreed management competencies, normally including those associated with financial planning, employment law and employee relations.
Selected one day workshops, focusing on the skills required at any particular stage of the project, are delivered by experienced GMS facilitators at appropriate moments throughout the programme. These may also be supplemented by workshops on company practices presented by members of the appropriate company department. For example “finance for non financial managers” may be followed by an in-house session on the company’s budgeting methods.
The model below shows a typical Level 2 project, which is delivered by a team of experienced trainers, all with considerable business and professional experience. GMS projects are customised to develop a range of strategic and operational skills, which are relevant to an organisations specific goals and objectives. Examples of suitable workshops topics are also listed although this is not an exhaustive list.
Level 3 Action Learning Sets
The close cooperation between delegates, necessary for the successful completion of the GMS programme, provides the ideal environment for the creation of a peer support group. Delegates are encouraged to create ongoing formal and informal links to foster discussion of business related issues and individual problems. The first session is normally facilitated by an Occupational Performance consultant.
Level 4 Continuous Learning
The GMS process provides a framework for continued learning. The same business simulation may be continued either to introduce further competencies or to provide advanced training in the initial competencies covered in the first simulation. In addition, the self learning skills developed during the simulation enable delegates to effectively continue their own development. |
